Fences Make Good Neighbors..and Good Dogs!

Sometimes it is the more ordinary things of life that give the most contentment...a fence that we had installed at the side of the house yesterday is one such thing. It is a very small area, now encased in a black vinyl covered chain link fence..prior to yesterday chain link fences were nowhere on my list of things I admired! Today, chain link is a thing of beauty!
This five foot fence will assure that in the dark of night and the deep of winter I will no longer be attached to the end of a six foot leash as my dogs walk me to the corner and back on a regular schedule. While my guys will continue to get their walks and exercise, I will be able to just open the door and let them out they can do what dogs!

Starting jobs, school years that make me blush:)

The call came...the adult child (that is a total oxymoran:)) who has been out of work since January 1 of this year got a job! It is a temp job, lasting a year, in these days of now..a year seems forever and also seems very permanent and lasting. It is a celebration tonight at a family fave restaurant..along with a goodbye to my niece who is heading back to her life as a student.
Good luck and Godspeed to both of them as they begin their new adventures in the now...
A beautiful bouquet of flowers was delivered to me at work..Awesome bright roses , pink carnations, yellow mums and deep purple somethings with sunny was from himself, I read the card and I blushed for the first time in funny and fun is a man that can make a 58 year old woman blush?
Some days the sunshine is but a reflection of the joy in my is such a day!

A new floor and a rainstorm..

The lake house has a new laminate dining room floor this evening..thanks to the hard work of Art, David, Anita and Ron. It is a beautiful floor, laid from the gift of the remains of Molly's condo floor and the last two boxes in the last warehouse in America to carry this type floor. I love will make life easier for all who walk through the door...not having to worry about leaving a wet or muddy print on carpet... huge improvement... one mothers ever get used to seeing their babies (albeit 30 years old:) use a table saw?? I passed a major but quiet mother test today..I did not say "be careful" even once..I am learning...
not heard from my girl today...I love her spirit of independence just as much as she does... but it is fun to share nyc adventures vicariously.. dog hanging downstairs..doesn't like storms..other one sleeping on the couch...
I could also sleep

Sometimes quantity..sometimes quality..

The annual Perseid Meteor Shower arrived this week... last night it found me sitting in the hot tub with my niece hoping to catch a show of light... my niece is an amazing young woman who has not had the easiest of journeys to get to her moments of now... she now sits on the cusp of adulthood.
She visits now, tan, healthy in body and mind after a summer spent running and biking in the hills of the west coast. I am just a stop on her way back to college.
I rejoice in this visit with her. Her smile lights up my house and her laugh is a joy to hear.
Sitting in the hot tub with her, I give a small wink to the heavens and MY mom, who loved this child dearly and worried about her much when she was a baby.
She is okay now mom, at least for the now...and really who can ask for more?
Thanks for visiting my much loved are always welcome here.
OH..and as for that meteor consisted of ONE meteor but it was beautiful and it was NOW.

It was....PERFECT

"They" say there is no such thing as the "perfect" childhood. "They" are wrong. I had one.
Being a child of the 50's meant long days doing whatever felt good at the time, following the road wherever it went...but always knowing that there were adults who took care of the stuff that allowed you to enjoy endless summer days, a Catholic school education, summer vacations on Cape Cod and the chaos and general hilarity that being one of seven family members called for.
It was on a street, (named after Thornton Wilder for goodness sake) where our family was reflected behind almost every door on the block...for a kid, a perfect mix of freedom and safety.
It all started there.
